1 yo tantrums. She's getting it out of her system, right...?

DD (DC2) is definitely someone who knows her own mind.

Most of the time she is funny, charming, has the biggest toothy grin ever. She makes me belly laugh. For her first 10 months she was pretty laid back.

But oh my word. I can't quite believe the tantrums now if she doesn't get what she wants. She throws her head back, goes stiff as a board, turns bright red and SCREAMS. As in, makes your ear buzz. She's 12months old.

Is there any hope at all that this is just a phase because I am scaaared about the terrible twos! At the moment I just hold her and calm her, without giving in to whatever started it all off, and wait for it to pass. But some days (like yesterday) if she is more tired or teething, it's a nightmare, I wanted to cry by bath time last night

'fraid not. DD2 was the most laid back child ever. I thought yay, finally my easy baby after the hell that was DD1.

Nope. At 17 months now she throws tantrums like you've never seen before. She makes DD1 look like Bambi. She's a shrieking bulldozer on legs.

My nerves are shredded by 6pm. I'm trying to ease myself off Citalopram which, in the mornings when I take them seems easy. By bedtime I'm almost ringing the GP to increase the dose.

Crap.

DS was so laid back, he missed the terrible twos completely but went a bit crazy for a while when DD was born. He's calming down but she's now a bad influence on him!! She's so crafty already, too. (And not in the knit-me-a-jumper sense).

I will not be mentioning this to my mother as I know what she'll say (there'll be evil chuckling and stuff about karma)

About 12 months, sorry :) She started to get a bit stroppy when she took her first steps at around 10 months but kept with 1 or 2 steps until 12 months. So I thought once she walked properly she'd calm down a bit. Like hell. It was like a switch went on in her head that said "shit, I can do stuff. Quick, let's climb furniture/attack family members/throw stuff"

I swear this child is a future olympian at some sort of chucking stuff sport. And when she's handed the gold medal she'll kick off because she wanted a different one.

My mother has realised, after seeing my children in action, that I was a flippin' angel. And all the years she bad-mouthed me...

Oh dear. Perhaps I'd better start bracing myself instead of waiting for it to pass. There definitely won't be a DD2!!!

This is not was I was hoping for....

My DD2 is an epic tantrummer!!! She will run to another room and fling her self on the floor if you tell her no! She also blows raspberries at me and throws whatever she can find, she's 15 months. DD1 is 3 and had never really tantrummed! It's quite hilarious to watch! X

I need to follow your example lawabidingmama and look for the funny side!

DD is also a thrower and last night she bit me! I was reading to DS and she just chomped on my arm. Then gave me the biggest grin in the world... I've got a feeling it's going to be interesting this time around.

oh help - sounds like mine (12 months old). He's just started the tantrum thing and the throwing stuff :(

Yes started at 12mths... I say to ds who is 14mths, 'you are not allowed to have tantrums until you are two!!!!' They must be so overwhelmed by having new skills but still so frustrated by not being able to do everything they want!
