Nipple feeding

My 5 month old has nipple fed since he was about 12 weeks old. It is completely pain free for me and he is obviously getting all the nutrition he needs as he is gaining weight well. I'm a bit concerned now as he's showing signs of teething ... should I try to correct his positioning now before his teeth erupt or will it be ok to carry on letting him nipple feed?

May be worth checking for tongue tie. My daughter fed like that and turned out it was because of a TT. But then feeding her was agony so maybe you'd feel pain if it was.
If the baby is gaining and you're in no pain then guessing just go with it.
My daughter is 17 months now and I'm still feeding and she 16 teeth :-)

I know this sounds silly, but are you sure he's nipple feeding. I had one midwife near the beginning tell me my baby was nipple feeding and it really dented my confidence. Actually she isn't nipple feeding and when they feed properly the tongue should cover the bottom gum so you should be OK. La Leche League have some good info on teeth and BF I think.

TreeHuggerMum1 - he had a tongue tie which was snipped when he was a day old. Perhaps he nipple feeds as that is how he learnt to suck with his tongue tie in the womb! I never thought of it that way!

My DD did and fed successfully for 16.5 months. Teeth were no more of an issue than for others. She went through a bitey phase, but changing positions to a rugby hold solved that. I say nipple fed, but I think by boob ergonomics (long nipple, small aureola-that sounds worse than it looks) made it look like nipple feeding when it was nourishing DD well enough.

I had two DDs who fed like this, same boob ergonomics as priya nipples like bottle nipples! Both likes a nip/bite DD2 in particular as she teethed very early but I didn't change a thing, apart from being very firm about any chomping down!
