Hello, my 1 year old boy, keeps banging his head off the floor, wall, door, baby gate, whenever i tell him no or take something off him hes not meant to have. he also throws himself backwards onto the floor and bangs his head.
Im telling him off when hes doing it and putting him in his pram until he calms down

He doesn't do it if he hasn't been told no, so i dont think its autism.

Any other suggestions what i could try, to get him out of this habit?

thanks

I'm afraid it's just something they try out. Ds went through a phase of this around that age (now 21mo) and will still start banging his head lightly if not getting his way occasionally. I always said to dh, he wouldn't do it if it hurt too much! Try not to react and he will probably stop it soon.

If you're really worried about his safety though, do as you're doing and wordlessly put him somewhere safe to work it through. Or cuddle it out. Whatever works for you.

My ds did it and I thought he was nuts or really stressed and unhappy. Everyone said it would pass but it is really distressing to watch .

I'd ignore it but try and distract him.

He did stop!!

Be patient and I'm sure it will pass

Hi, thanks for advice, ive been trying the ingnoring and not shouting/pram method today and as soon as he banged his head, i turned and looked away and he seemed to stop quicker than usual Smile

Ill keep it up and see how it goes x
