Confusion over height/weight percentiles

DD (27 months) had her two-year check up today, which all went swimmingly except for when she was weighed/had height taken.

OK, I haven't had her done for over a year but she had always been a petite little thing between 9th and 25th percentile for height and weight. But today she came out at 91st percentile for weight but still the same for height. I was shocked. The HV was shocked and had to double/triple check it. There's absolutely nothing to suggest that DD is in any way overweight - both me and the HV agreed she's perfectly in proportion. OK, she has the toddler pot belly, but it would be weird if she didn't. HV said maybe she's just solid.

She said I should get her done again in three months when she's two and a half, which I will, but is it normal for the percentiles to go awry just before a growth spurt, for example, which seems like a possible reason for this - maybe she's about to shoot up?

Any other ideas? Thanks. xx

Totally normal, both mine off the charts always, but head and body length all in proportion. Are you or the Dad tall? Both mine are now 6 & 11, boys, tall and as skinny as you like! Once a HV told me that children are like chocolate, some are like hollow chocolate eggs and weight nothing whereas others are solid chocolate and weight more - but both can look the same! Don't worry.

My DS is 9th for height and 50th for weight. He's a proper slim jim too, people always get a shock when they pick him up.....He's just made of heavy stuff! He also definitely goes out then up, out then up, so you might well be right about the growth spurt thing.

Like the egg analogy, grants, she sounds like a fab HV.

Thanks both - yes good egg analogy. I like it! No, DP pretty average height but I'm short.

I won't worry then. It's just the first time she's ever gone outside of her usual percentile line (and by so much) that it was a bit of a shock. I'm really little so we know she's going to be petite, but yes I wouldn't be surprised if she suddenly shot up now and evened out a bit. Three year olds ARE more lean and lanky than chubby two year olds though aren't they so somewhere in between there has to be that change. I think you're right about the 'out then up' thing Daisy. [awaits the up].
