6 yr old DS can't seem to find the volume control

on his own voice.
Is this normal?
He is part of a big class of noisy kids but he seems to be almost constantly shouting at the moment. It happens more if he's excited about something - but its really non stop. I ask him to speak more quietly, I say "shh" and I ask him why he is shouting. But still it continues.
Its actually doing my head in.
Do you think I should get his ears checked?

Mine's 5 and his volume control broke at around 4 years. The only time he speaks quietly is when I need him to project his voice, in the back of the car when we have music on. Grr.

Yes get him checked. My ds is similar age and v loud, he gets glue ear with infection and much louder then, teachers noticed it in the last infection run.... But he isn't quiet even when they're clear, i pretend he has a volume switch and turn it down which works quite well.
