How old is she storm? Can you give us any more information?

stormedmentor · 21/05/2013 12:43

DD is 3.8 and the nightmares are usually about pirates capturing her
BTW she watches pirate cartoons during the day

Nightmares at that age are totally normal and she just needs you to be consistent, calm and caring and to stop putting pirate shows on the TV Smile

If I stop the shows she has a meltdown (results in Angry DD)

the prentend to be pirates in the day ...... and make sure it has a happy ending.... you are the pirate and you caputure her, and tie her up.

BUT you do it so that she can easily escape and then puts you in a boat and you sail away to another place to bother someone else.

We have a special bed time teddy to take the nightmares away. We got it when Dd1 was 3 and was having horrendous nightmares which continued into waking visions when we tried to rouse her. They were horrible. The teddy worked from day 1 and still helps today (she's now 6). The power of suggestion is wonderful - similar to tomorowis' suggestion above. Maybe get her a pirate themed soft toy to sleep with to 'be on her side'.

When she screams, do you put the pirate shows back on?
