My 16month old has the lhabit of screaming-Please help and save my ear drums

My lovely little boy has learnt the habit of screaming. Its not even for attention he does it just walking around. Its been about 6 weeks and i feel i have tried everything. I have tried coming down to his level and explaining he doesnt need to scream just call me and ill help him, i have tried saying stop it over and over, i have tried ignoring it

Any more ideas please as my ear drums cant take it much longer.

My dd used to do this. Screaming back worked for us, it was almost like she thought that she was the only one who could make that noise so hearing it from me broke the cycle.

I too either scream back or ignore, depending on my mood and hers! So if she is doing it for attention, I ignore, if she just fancies a scream, I do it back to her!
