When did you stop doing the whole cotton wool & water thing for cleaning DC's bum/face?

DS is 3m old and me & DH are still largely using cotton wool & water for his nappy changes at home.

Kind of thinking we could just be using wipes all the time now maybe?? Just wondering when any of you stopped using cotton balls?

Would prob still continue with it for cleaning his face tho as I'm not sure what else we'd use - apart from perhaps a face flannel?

I stopped at about 8 weeks when my friend recommended reusable wipes. Just as gentle as cotton wool and water and suitable for face and bums. I use cheeky wipes but there are lots of others available on line and smell so much better than disposable wipes.

Almost immediately! Couldn't cope with cotton and water, my boy has a sensitive bottom and wipes irritated him. Until we discovered boots own 2 packs for under £2 and they are fantastic. Very cheap and very gentle.

About 3 months old. However when she gets nappy rash we go back to cotton wool. She is nearly 1 & teething so has severe but intermittent sore bum.

Until half way through that amazing tar-like first shite they do. A midwife walked past, gave me a pitying look and whispered "there's wet wipes in that bounty pack you know".

I think it's an English thing. I've never met anyone who has used cotton wool. Sounds time consuming!

Since forever, since pfb was tinie and i have,had 3 more dc since! Too time consuming and wipes are just as good if not better, huggies pure are the next best think.

Huggies pure are awful, every pack I have ever encountered was a homogeneous mass of wipe which I ended up peeling layers off in little wisps.

Six weeks with both dc on cotton wool. Baby wipes are everywhere in the house (and they are fantastic for spot cleaning upholstery/carpets/clothes).

Bum - 2 weeks
Face - Switched to flannel at weaning. You cannot scrape porridge off with cotton wool. Would switch quicker in hindsight. Don't baby wipe her face if i can help it though as her skin breaks out

DC1 - never used in the first place.

DC2 - used cotton wool in hospital and now use reusable wipes (i say wipes, i really mean some squares of fleece/flannel) and a small spray bottle filled with water.

I think i have PSB syndrome :o

I bought a lot of cheap flannels and used them with warm water for months. I did use wipes out of the house - not a total martyr - but the flannels did the job and could be washed and reused. I found the flannels did a better job and am sore tempted to return to them again at nearly three years old with a poo-in-the-nappy-only DS.

Never used cotton wool, just sensitive, fragrance-free wipes from day 1.

RandallPinkFloyd - I actually guffawed at what you said! Cotton wool WAS crap for the tar poo days I must admit!

I've got stacks of huggies pure wipes (a buy 1 get 2 free deal means we've got about 5 packets!) so I think I'll just use them for his bum from now on then.

I'll prob use up the cotton balls for his face & then move onto flannels I think!

I still use cotton wool, my dd is 20 months! Reuseable wipes when we're out and about. She is my PFB!

Well, for crying out loud, it's like thick black super glue!

I was covered in it, there was cotton wool stuck everywhere, DS was crying, DH was trying to help, then DS puked all that gacky watery stuff they cough up.

The first in my ever-growing list of parenting failures!

About 2 weeks at most! Also never used cotton wool for her face unless it was for gunky eyes. I must be a terrible slattern but I just wiped milk off her face with a muslin, and then splashed some water on it at bathtime. Did I miss something? Do people actually wash baby's faces?
