still not walking....

DD is 15 months and I know about ten other babies the same age and all are walking or taken first steps at least. Sometimes my DD just doesn't even seem interested in walking, she would rather read books or build things! She can only just stand up on her own but we have to really coax her in to doing it. She wont even walk only holding one of my hands, she has to hold both hands otherwise she refuses to do it and just gets upset. Is this normal? Should I be worried?

What does she do? Bum shuffle? Crawl? Nothing?

I wouldn't worry yet. She's very young and I know loads of babies who weren't walking at this age. A friend's dd didn't walk until 22 months. She's 5 yo now and doing the same as her peers.

Normal. I know several babies who didn't walk till 18 months. They do things at their own pace!

You cannot 'make' a baby walk (just like you cannot stop them once they are on the go ).

There is a vast range of when babies start walking or even cruising.
Is she mobile otherwise? Crawling?

FWIW, my 4 walked between 10 months and 17 months. The one who took the longest is the most coordinated and sporty of my lot. Go figure!

If you are worried, get her seen by your HV/GP?

My DD didn't walk until 16mo and it happened all of a sudden. She is now 23mo and doing my head in running everywhere. You're still in the normal range though I appreciate it can feel like you have the latest walker ever.

My DS didn't walk until 16 months and literally just did it one day and within a week was walking very sturdily and confidently. He walks and runs everywhere now at 23 months and I would actually say is more confident on his feet than others his age. won't bloody utter a word though

Dd1 - 18 months. She was a bum shuffle baby. Dd1's little friend 22 months! Iirc the HV won't consider a referral until post 18 months because not walking then is still in the normal range.

Yeah, she crawls and climbs but seems to be very cautious when it coms to being on her feet! I thought it was prob normal but just thought I'd check as she's the last one out of our group of friends and some are younger and been walking for months already! Thanks for the replies, feel a bit better about her taking her time now :)

Dd1 sat on her bum and watched every single one of her friends walk between 9 and about 15 months. It didn't faze her at all! It's funny to me now but I was v anxious at the time. A late waking bum shuffling baby really threw me for a while and I thought I had made some huge mistake!

My ds is 18 months and not looking like walking anytime soon, he's just not interested, he can crawl everywhere at super speed so why walk?! I'm not worried about it, like the other posters say, they all do things at different times.
Not being able to walk also means he can't run away from me. Is your dd big for her age? Size can mean later walking/crawling, my ds is at the top of the centiles.
I'd love it if he would sit still and build things or read, your dd sounds very intelligent! I really wouldn't worry, make the most of this time she stays still, as once she's walking you will forever be chasing after her.

Hi my first daughter bum shuffled brilliantly and showed no interest in walking until she did it at 20 months, I was the same and bum shuffled until 18 months. My youngest daughter crawled but still didn't walk until 19 months! Both absolutely fine though so don't worry.
