Losing first milk tooth at 4 years 8 months?

Perhaps I'm too worried... but my little boy lost his first milk tooth yesterday. He is not even 5 and it feels very early... none of my friends' children who are his age has lost any yet. I thought it would happen around the age of 6/7. Is it normal or should I be concerned?

FWIW I asked about this at my last dental appt as some of my sons classmates have started losing their milk teeth & I was thinking it was a bit early - my DS is 5.5- Dentist told me it varies a lot from child to child & certainly you can lose them before 5 & equally childcould be 6.5 or even 7 before they start to lose them.

BTW what did the tooth fairy leave ?

Thanks BeaLola - very reassuring!

The fairy left two pounds :-) He was super excited! He freaked out when it started to go wobbly but is now very proud of his gap and shows it to everyone, including strangers in the street!
