Complete paranoia I'm sure...

... but my DS (9 months) hasn't grown in height the last 2 months. He's been measured at monthly weight checks as he's dropped off the charts height wise. Weight wise he's maintaining his curve of between 25th-50th centile.

I'm sure I'm being stupid worrying about this... but does anyone have any experience of this? When should I worry? When should he be checked out by our GP or a paed?

if he is being checked when you visit your HV then they will say something if there is anything to be concerned about.

is this worrying you because other mums have noticed it or are you following that centile chart like someone posessed?

lol supakids. It wasn't worrying me when he was dropping down then charts. or when he dropped off them as my husband is only 5'6 or 7". But now others are noticing that he's small and are showing concern when they hear he's 9 months. They ask if he's seen a paed and things which worries me more! It also worries me that his head and weight are following a different path altogether.

My DS is 25 months, and he had a pair of 9-12 month trousers on yesterday. Granted, they were slightly half mast in fashion (only slightly). 12-18 month are mostly a bit long, and any clothes in 18-24 months- well you can forget it they are HUGE on him. (I'm 5'2, DP 5'6.)
Everyone can't believe it when I say he's 2! and as for the charts, well I havent looked at them for a good long while, IMHO i'm sure they were designed to make the most stable, saniest women into paranoid dribbling freaks! You have to remember they were designed somewhere in the dark ages (60's I think)- and that every point that falls ANYWHERE on the chart is within normal ranges.

My advice for what its worth? Chuck the charts away- he might not have grown for a month or so, but most probably a growth spurt is just around the corner.

I wouldn't worry. I have no idea what height my dd was between 7 and 9 months. Well, between any months actually! I think Novax is right, unless you think there's something else wrong, chuck the charts away and don't worry about it.

Agree with Nova - and my DS1 is also 25mo and I've only just put the 9-12m trousers away! 18-24m ones would nearly fit me!

Thanks everyone. I'm sure I'm just being silly - but it nags at me every now and then. Glad to hear that there are other shorties out there! Makes me feel a whole lot better.

There's also the possibility that the measuring isn't very consistent.

One time my ds was measured, he was shorter than the time before!! The HV who measured him shorter said she didn't like to force the knees until they were completely straight and IMO may as well have picked a random number for his length but the length she measured is recorded in his book.

The height measurement is definitely inconsistent! My dd was measured by two people, a week apart, and one measurement was 5 cm taller than the other!!!!!! The taller measurement was done by the Paed Consultant who immediately referred us for x-rays because it looked like dd had grown 7 cm in 2 months. Of course, she hadn't, and had just been measured wrongly.

Try not to worry about it - I'm sure your HV would have said something if she was worred. However, if you're concerned, make an appointment to see your GP so she/he can put your mind at ease.

I measured him myself this morning several times using the wall (head against wall) and a book at his feet. I also measured him 'standing'. I get at least 1cm more than the HVs which is good as that almost puts him back on the charts . And perhaps he is still growing.

I thought they weren't supposed to measure babies any more until they can stand up straight .. because there is so much inaccuracy involved ... certainly in the two areas of London I've had babies they refused outright to measure their length
