Nail-biting in 2.5 year-old

DS had an accident over Christmas and lost the top of his fingernail. It was raggedy when it began to grow in and he started to bite it because it was irritating him. He is now a constant nail-biter. Any ideas of best way to stop it?

well I'm a nail biter and these things didnt work for me but at 2 and a half they might.
that horrible tasting stuff and you paint on nails and skin.
if it is just one finger put a plaster or the like over it.
my DParents use to hit my hand as well (lightly but enoigh to make me stop)
