Nappy rash...AGAIN!!

Hiya all. My daughter has got nappy rash again, this is the 3rd time since january. This times ita on her bottom. I had some cream last time which worked callee daktacort. I also used bapanthem which was good. Iv used sudacream an another prescribed but made it worse. Shes 15months old so she might be teething? Is this common to have the rash so many times?

DS1 used to get nappy rash all the time, I used all the creams out there, the only thing that worked is oats in the bath. Cut off the bottom of a pair of tights, fill with dry porridge oats and put in the bath when the water is running, the oats will get nice and soggy and you can squeeze out the good stuff!

Try Metanium. You can buy it or get the GP to prescribe it. It makes a good barrier which is the best prevention.

Also do lots of nappy changes, plenty of washes with water and lots of time with no nappy.

Both my son and daughter suffered very badly with nappy rash and metanium is the only cream that would cure it.
Works best at night, don't be shy with it, cover all over and it will work it's magic.
Keep area clean and air as much as possible.

I used Conotrane cream for Dd3 it is amazing stuff, you can get it over the counter at the chemist. It is quite cheap to.

Have found the Weleda Calendula nappy cream is the only one that works on my DD.
Lots of nappy free time too.

Have you changed nappy brand recently? I find some irritate DD's skin.

Sudocrem always makes DS's bum more sore if I use it when he already has a rash. Metanium is brilliant stuff, works quickly for us!

If it gets very red and sore or starts to break down and look wet you need to get your GP to look ambit in case it's thrush.

I think dakacort is a fungal cream. we've tried most things too, most often she seems to have thursh not a bacterial infection. the doc said that nappy rash often goes with asthma and eczema which is the case here. he said it should improve as she gets older, which makes me feel better and that I'm not such a terrible mother! we top and tail twice a day, Wash with water after every poo and clean thoroughly every time. we cloth nappy but are trialling sposies at the moment and it makes no difference. nappy off time probably helps a bit but not a whole lot with the thrush. I hope that is reassuring at least!

Hi there, I used to actually cry over my DD1s nappy rash, it was just horrendous. If you go to the docs they will give you the nuclear option - canesten with hydrocortisone - but only for 10 days use at a time, 'twas like magic

Ive found sudocream or weleda calendula cream are good preventative creams but if bad nappy rash flairs up I bring out the big guns- metanium and it really clears it up. God knows what's in it and its a pain to get off clothes/ carpet etc but its good. And I second goldmandras advice on lots of nappy changes, just water for nappy changes & baths (no wipes or bubble bath) and as much nappy free time as possible.

It's heartbreaking when they get bad nappy rash, I can't bare it. I hope your dd is better soon.

I never had much success with Metanium, but cleaning with baby oil and cotton wool pads at every nappy change, followed by bepanthen worked wonders. If it doesn't clear-up in a couple of days it may be thrush so more canesten needed.

Its a while ago, but my little boy got really bad nappy rash...all red bottomed with white patches - really sore. I used to use metanium quite thickly all the time and it quickly sorted him out :)

Another vote for weleda calendula nappy cream, combined with plenty of nappy free time. Nappy rash is awful, hope she is feeling better soon.

I used to rub a bit of Vaseline on my son's bottom everytine I changed his nappy. The barrier seemed to help prevent nappy rash as he was very sensitive to it.

I find cleaning with just water and then using Waitrose Baby bottom butter works to prevent rashes most of the time, also making sure LO has some nappy free time every day.
If a rash does appear I usually find its thrush and so Canesten 1% for a day normally works to get rid.

Prevention rather than cure here but good old fashioned zinc and castor oil cream at every change keeps it at bay for us. It's cheap as chips in Wilkos.

I know what you mean our DS (22mths) seems to constantly have it. As soon as one lot clears up, days later he'll have it again. We did work out that some of it was down to the formula then follow on milk which made his poo more like runs and weetabix which made his poo like wholegrain mustard and both made his bum so sore he had blisters.

We used Drapolene (which is an antiseptic) whilst he had the blisters and was raw but then followed up with Matanium (whilst he had the rash) and it works wonders. You can also get an everday Matanium for when there is no rash. All three I rave about to everyone who'll listen, lol xx

Another vote for weleda, love the stuff.

Metani worked for dd except when accompanied by something fungal then timodine from Gp.

Ds allergic to sudocrem and wipes in early days - not tried sudocrem again though wipes fine now, and timodine ok but Canesten better plus an amazing diluted Vaseline called fifty fifty cream available over the counter. Like Vaseline but less gloopy and no preservative, creates an effective barrier.

Lots of advice here, but timodene not yet mentioned. Get on presrciption, its antispetic, antifungal, hydrocortisone. Is very effective for nappy rash and other skin chafing bits like neck folds....
