Toddler using a spoon?!?!

Hi LO is 20 months - he eats everything and has always been awesome at finger food.
He can hold spoon and put in mouth but expects it to automatically refill and kicks off when I take it off him!
Any tips on how to get him to use it or is it a case of wearing protective clothing for a while!?!?!? Grin

My DS2 is 2 on Monday & sounds similar to your DS! He can use a spoon (load & feed) by himself for foods that stick to the spoon - yoghurt, mashed potato, weetabix etc - but for other foods he still needs help loading the spoon! For some foods such as pasta, fishfingers, sausages, he can use a fork & spear the food, so might be worth trying a fork for your DS.

Otherwise, I would say just go with the mess & he will learn!

I agree with the fork!

DS will use a spoon for anything sticky, but likes to use a fork for finger foods. For combinations (i.e. pasta) he will use the spoon for the sauce and the fork for the bits.
