Crying on waking

Hi all.

My DS is 18mo and as long as I can remember he has always cried when he wakes up. He cries if he wakes in the night then goes back to sleep after a minute. He cries when he wakes in the morning. Be cries when he wakes from a nap and most of the time he cries when he's going to sleep.

Is this normal? Will he grow out of it?

Hi Twish,

Not sure if it's the same thing but my DS (15mo) always wakes up from naps in an utterly foul mood - generally the best thing for us is to be ready to go and then get out of the house with him as soon as he wakes. Once he's been out he's usually a lot cheerier.

If it's a groany, mellow sort of cry Confused when he's going to sleep, then DS does that too - I interpret it as him settling himself with a nice low-effort stream of consciousness noise.

My DD has only recently stopped - she's just 2. Now she babbled happily for ages when she wakes in the mornings. Still often grumpy after nap though :(

I really hope he grows out of it. Because he cries as soon as he wakes up he wakes me In the night every time and it takes me 30 mins to get back to sleep even tho I havnt even had to get out of bed to see to him. I'm knackered all the time :(

I've got 20 mth old twins. One does it, one doesn't. I'm sure he'll grow out of it at some stage.
