What is the best way to deal with a 17month old boy's fiery temper? He tantrums about anything and everything from putting his coat on to brushing his teeth to me not putting mr tumble on quick enough. My husband says I should let him cry it out but my son gets really upset and I hate to see him like that. I also don't understand why he is getting so frustrated and upset so its hard to help him. What should I do?!

Hmm, I wish I had the magic answer! 18mo ds here and currently more whingey than tantrums - not sure which is worse! I do find explaining things and giving ds advance warning helps - so saying, in 5 mins I'm going to get your coat and shoes on because...
Saying that, he loves going out so if I said that he'd rush to get them himself and be annoyed if we weren't ready right that minute :)

Also, my ds is pretty much non verbal - is yours? Could be frustration over not having right words if so? I try to ignore frustration tantrums, he just needs to get if out of his system IMO. Or I say, when you're ready to join us (if writhing around on the rug during lunch for eg) then your lunch is here.

Will watch this thread!

Yes, he is non verbal, the only words he has are Dada, occasionally mama, dat! (that etc) and gare (bear). I think sometimes he can't understand what im saying to him. Maybe he does and chooses to ignore me im not sure! Maybe in treating him like a baby and I should treat him more like a big boy and explain things more before they happen. This might help his vocab too.

My lovely baby boy is turning into a mental screaming crazy child!! Lol
