What should a little boy's penis/foreskin look like?!!!!

Can't tell if DS (age 2) is normal! I'm sure I recall being told that a baby's foreskin should be left alone and that it will work it's way loose by the time he is around two so that it is able to retract, and that when it can do this then this is the time when cleanliness and hygiene are important to stop infection and keep healthy.
My DS's foreskin still seems to be attached and not loose at all.
Is this normal? If it stays attached will this cause him problems? Should I take him to see the doctor to check that all is as it should be?
Sorry if this is a silly question - just don't want him to have problems with his bits when he is older because I didn't spot that something wasn't right!
Thanks!

No idea as every male person in my family is circumcised, but could you ask the healthvisitor or your GP?

I have a ds of 18 months. I'm not expecting his foreskin to retract for years yet. Just leave well alone.

My DS is 7 and only recently discovered the ability to retract his foreskin. Unfortunately he showed his Nana first

I wouldn't worry about it as I'm sure, like my son, he will enjoy fiddling and discovering this himself! Grin

it is normal for it not to retract age 2. Some dont retract until puberty! As long as he has no issues, infections, etc then leave it alone.

ZuleikaD · 20/03/2013 09:10

Leave it alone, it'll be fine.

At 2, you don't need to worry - it is perfectly normal not to be able to retract the foreskin at this age. However, do keep an eye on it - we first took DS1 to the doctors when he was 6 as his still didn't retract, but the advice at that stage was to wait and see. However, by 9 it was still the same and so DS was circumcised last month. But for now, you really do just need to be patient and see how your DS develops.

Thanks everyone!
It was just this recollection that I'd read somewhere that it should be retracting by age 2 that got me thinking!
His little bits seem perfect so all is fine and dandy!
Thanks again.

I think that so long as he's able to urinate without the urine ballooning the foreskin, then everything is ok. I remember that my little brother was circumcised at around 4 because of this being a problem.
