9m old moving hands back and forth towards month

Hi there,
My 9m DS often makes the following sign: holds his hands together and moves them backwards and forwards towards his mouth, with his elbows out at 45 degrees.

Does this mean he is hungry? The timing doesn't seem to be linked to eating times at all (sometimes he will do it before food, sometimes after and sometimes at completely different times!). Any ideas what it could mean?

Thanks :)

Sorry - title is supposed to say towards mouth, not month!!

It could do, but babies tend to be fascinated by their hands and what they can do with them. DD would stare at hers for ages and make them do strange movements.

Dd went through a phase of doing this. I think as lexies says its them getting used to working these amazing and complicated things called hands. Dd used to think it was the most amazing thing ever if you put your hands dd together with fingers interlaced and then wiggled your fingers.

Thanks Lexiesgirl. He doesn't watch them whilst he is doing it though, so it seems more like a comforting move rather than an inquisitive move
