3 year old obsessed with certain dress

Hi all.

My 3.5 year old has recently become obsessed with a certain dress (pink and flowery). And I mean obsessed. It is the first thing that she wants to get changed into in the morning (and sometimes she changes into it in the middle of the night). She doesn't want to go out if she can't wear this dress (it is now so worn and dirty that she only wears it indoors). As soon as we come home she gets changed back into this dress and refuses to let me wash it. She has worn it every day now for at least a month. I had a new baby 3 months ago and wondered if this might be related. Anyone else with a 3 year old with an obsession like this??

Sounds as if you are right to tie this in to the arrival of her sibling. Maybe she is feeling a little insecure not to be your 'baby' now and is using her dress as a security blanket. Would she allow you to use it as a doll's dress if it is now to tatty for her to wear herself? That way she can carry the doll and dress around with her, sleep with it etc and use it that way.

When you get it off her before bed I would sneak it away, wait till she is sleeping if you have to so you can wash it overnight.

I would guess its a phase, what are the chances of being able to get an identical dress? EBay?

I wouldn't worry too much, three yr olds are contrary things and it will prob be something else in a few mths. A friend if mine had a toddler who would only wear a particular pair if wellies, even to bed and then one day just decided not to anymore.

Thanks for your replies! She is currently here wearing it over her clothes that we are going out in Grin. Think maybe a mixture of new baby and being a 3 year old. Thanks for advice. Must say am sick of sight o damned thing!

Googirl likes her wellies A LOT. alot

They are now a size too small and have a rip in them. I tried new boots, but she was having none of it.

I just had to 'lose' them and distract her out of it :(

Maybe a new dress might help?

Dead common & normal, OP.
With boys it's usually pirate & spiderman costumes.

DD 3.5 - has peppa pj's that she changes into as soon as she's home - she loves them so much i got her another pair so they can be washed! I pick my battles and tho I'm not a fan of the pig, DD is 3 - guessing she won't be wearing them at 13.
