Confused about colours!

Dr will be 2 at the end of the month, is it normal that she can't recognise colours. She can say Red, Yellow, Green, Orange, Blue and Purple but just can't recognise them. She also doesn't group things together into colours. Is this normal for her age, just seems strange to me as she is good at shapes and can recognise some numbers and letters and has a good understanding of everyday things. Thanks x

At 2 I wouldn't worry about it. My 3.9 year old son can ID all colours, but not all numbers and no letters.

They all get there, SN excepted, in the end!

Not aware my DD at 2.2 can recognise colours to that extent at all, and I seriously can't imagine her grouping things in colours.
Overly worrying/comparing me thinks..

Ds 2.6 is only just getting colours despite being able to say them all, recognising them is sometimes muddled. He is good with numbers and shapes but letters ... I think he knows 3!

My DD recently had an assessment due to late walking... They also checked her knowledge of colours etc and told us that between the ages of 2 and 4 is within the normal range of knowing / not knowing colours, numbers etc so don't worry Smile

Yes, I am sure I'm worrying unnecessarily, I'm not comparing her to anyone though, just with her other abilities. Thanks for all your reassurance, she'll get there when she's ready like you say. Smile

Hello,
My DD (2.7) has no clue about her colours, despite being able to say the words very clearly, in English and know their French translation (we live in France, DH is French). Who knows when she will 'get' it, but certainly hasn't clicked yet!

normal - all 3 of mine did this, youngest could say all colours and eventually group but due to hearing issues couldn't label correctly for ages, ds1 turns out is slightly red green colour blind... your dd is still little, plenty of time to worry about academics, can't think of a life skill at 2 that she needs that would involve accurate matching of colours...
