Detailed questions about CC. Desperate to get my 11 months old to sleep. Help please!

I started the CC last night as my lil girl doesn't sleep through night, I mean up nearly every hour at night. This has gone on for some time and I have tried other softer technique, ie Pick Up Put Down, however it wasn't successful. Now CC is my last option so I am desperate to get this right and hopefully work.

I have few practical questions about the technique as I apply it.

1 it seems that my lil girl can fall asleep on her own within a relatively shorter time frame but once she wakes up at night, it can sometimes take as long as over an hour to settle her. Is this usual?

  1. When I go in her room to settle her from time to time, should I put her down while rubbing her back? Or should I leave her stand in her cot and hope she can let down eventually? There were couple of times she fell asleep straight away once I put her down before I could leave her room.
  1. I noticed if I rub her and calm her and then put her down, most time she would close her eyes immediately and starts to doze off. I then quickly leave the room as I thought we mustn't let them fall asleep while we are still in the room. Inevitably once she opens her eyes (before she completely falls asleep) she won't find me there so she would start crying. In this case, should start timing the moment I leave her room or when she starts to cry? There could be a few minutes gap.

Thanks in advance!

I would always put down before leaving the room, as sometimes at this age they can't work out how to get down once they've stood up.

I would also not leave the room until asleep - I think that reassurance goes a long way.

Hi Z, thanks very much for the reply! My little one can sit back down herself so I am not worried about that. In fact she put herself to sleep by lying herself down totally on her own on the very first attempt when I tried CC. The reason I was asking this question is that I do find she tends to fall asleep almost immediately after I put her down but before I manage to leave her room meaning once she wakes up in the middle of the night, she doesn't see me there therefore will refuse to go back to sleep until I go in and put her down again. This way she will not sleep through night. Like last night she was up 6 times. I know from reading various posts that CC does need parents to leave the room before they fall asleep. However I o agree with you that "reassurance goes a long way" and you can never do too much for our little ones.
