Strength needed -dummy weaning.

Today I have snipped the teat of my nearly 2 year olds dummy and this has made him reject it as planned but he is very upset. He only used to have in when in bed at nap/bedtimes. He went to bed an hour ago and is still upset despite my regular checks to calm him. I know I have to be strong but it's really hard. How long is this likely to last? Does anyone have tips or success stories to help? Thanks Z

We went cold turkey with 2.11yo DD last night.

Told her the dummy fairy was coming to take her broken dummy, and that she'd leave a gift to say thanks.

I couldn't have done it any sooner, she wasn't ready.

My DS did the whole give it to the fairy thing and it worked with all 3 of hers. I do think she prepared them for it, along the lines of before xmas you will have to give your dummy to the fairy. Then she'd pick a night and they'd leave it for the fairy so it was 'their decision'
They all did it no fuss and of course got a present off the fairy.
