Highchair to chair - what age?

At what age did you move your DC from a highchair to a normal chair at the table? How did you find the transition?

I got a booster seat with straps and used from 18 months. It's excellent as saves space and means we can sit at the table, but Ds is still strapped in. It's also very portable for days out.

I kept dd in her high chair as long as I could. Less mess for me and it stopped her running around during meals.

She probably stopped at 3.

Moved Ds to booster seat when he was 2 and he loved it...it's a big boy seat and high chair is now a babies thing!

Booster seat here for us too at around 16 months I think. Much better for him as he became part of the table rather than perched outside it. His eating and behaviour improved noticeably.

my niece sat at the table at my house from about 18 mo, DS is 13mo and can sit at a small table to eat a snack i'm aiming to have him out of his high chair by 18mo-ish. It could just e my experience but my nefew was in a high chair until almost 3 and was much harder to get to sit down and eat once he was out of it than DN i think the freedom went to his head and sent him hyper, but as i say thats only my experience of 2 children.

Hmm - my DS is 2.7 and still sits in his. We've tried to retire it but he likes it too much and it does keepnhim contained.

Keeping them in longer means they can move straight to a chair without needing a booster seat, and you can make it an exciting thing to 'sit with the grown-ups'.

I had no problems with behaviour.

Used tripp-trapps for both DCs and they were both out of the baby-set parts at about 14 months when they could climb up and down safely. Never had any issues with behaviour and their tripp-trapps grow with them.

Same as most - moved to a booster seat, inbetween highchair and adult dining / kitchen chair. From memory, I think it was when they were about 2, but too long ago to be definite.

Been in a booster for a while, so maybe 18 months.
means we can all sit together, and pushing things away doesn't involve them going on the floor ;) so less cleaning {{there needs to be a lazy mummy smiley}}

My DD decided to grow extra legs every time I tried to get her into the high chair from about 15/16 mo. I got a booster chair for the kitchen chair instead and now she sits happily at the table and we can have her on a normal chair if eating out rather than faffing to find a high chair. She likes being a bit grown up I think! She is 18mo now and think getting a bit miffed with the booster, so we don't strap her in any more.

DD is just two and would be perfectly capable of sitting up at the table but she's tiny, bless her so she's still in her high chair. We've taken the tray off though, so she's tucked in and 'at' the table. She definitely still needs the height though.

DS2 (23m)has just moved out of his Ikea Antilop highchair at his request into his older brother's chair which is adjustable height but with straps so can sit high enough at the table with no tray but still is strapped in.3.5 year old DS1 was strapped in until 3 but mainly to minimise mess & keep him at the table for 5 minutes!
