"I want to go home!"

DD's just two and her new thing, if she doesn't get her own way/bumps her head/isn't allowed a biscuit is: I want to go home! (in a whiney voice). She doesn't necessarily mean it because she even says it when she is home, but how can I discourage it? Ignore it? It gets a bit embarrassing, say if we're visiting friends or relatives. Please tell me this is just a phase! Thanks.

It's a phase and say "oh but we are having a nice time here at.... we will go home in 30 mins" and ignore her and have fun so that she wants to join in.

DS2 does this too. He really means "I'm a bit tired" or "I want to say something but I'm not sure what". He also will say it when at home. I wouldn't take too much notice and change the subject. Or tell your friend your visiting that she says it at home too....

My ds (2.4) does the same if he is unsure. Also says 'tired' if he s been told something is naughty /not to do something! Im sure it s all normal distraction stuff/trying to get their own way!
