Help! How do I silence my nightowl?

My DD is 2.5 and whilst has always been great at going to bed, she rarely sleeps all night long. She tends to wake anytime after 1am but stays awake for 2-3 hours!! I have no idea what wakes her, she's not upset or calling out for me, just wide awake. I wouldnt really mind but she can be really noisy, shouting, screeching, banging her legs against her cot bars. Eventually she goes back to sleep but sometimes I find it hard to nod off again. I never imagined she would still not be sleeping through consistently at her age!!

Have any of you experienced this? Is there anything I can do to stop her? I tried to explain to her this morning that darkness means sleepytime. She just grinned at me and asked for rice krispies Hmm so I'm pretty sure it's gone in one side and straight out the other Grin

My other concern is that she wont be getting enough sleep if a large chunk of the night is spent playing (she no longer naps during the day). Any advice would be much appreciated Smile

My DS used to do this if he had too long a nap in the day - so he wasn't tired enough to keep asleep all night. If your DD doesn't nap, can you make her bedtime later or get her up earlier in the morning?

noble thanks for responding. She doesnt nap at all anymore and goes to bed fairly early but i admit i could possibly get her up earlier in the mornings. I've been letting her sleep till around 8:30am so that she's not knackered by 4pm so will try that Confused
