Helping 4 yr old to develop social skills

My dd1 seems to find it difficult to engage socially with others, it's not that she doesn't want to but she really doesn't know how to - she squawks rather than talks, becomes more or less non-verbal and over excited when she is trying to engage with an unfamiliar child (adults too but to a lesser extent, probably because she isn't as interested in them).

i am not enormously worried about this - she's quite young, in other regards i have no worries about her development, and i know that social engagement doesn't come naturally to many people (including me). but i would very much like to help her learn to engage with others as she wishes to, and i'm wondering if anybody has any recommendations of books on developing children's social skills which might help?

dd1 was/is pretty similar
we have some good books join in and play and how to be a friend
They are a bit cheesey, but give good starting points for your own discussions.

thanks charlotte, she's a bit resistant to being told things, so these may be a good jumping off point Smile
