2year check, what do they actually check??

My ds has his a week tuesday, and we are wondering what they actually check!!
and he is now 2.3years as well, does that make any difference??

height, weight and check if they recognise pictures in a book and can follow simple instructions also lots of questions about diet, sleep etc. HTH.

At my DS's 2 year check, they checked his height & weight then he had to build a tower, name pictures in a book & brush a dolls hair!
They asked questions about his development & if I had any concerns and that was about it I think.

My DS was 2.5 when he had his check.

When my dd had hers they had about 8 others in the room together and watched how they interacted with each other, asked them simple questions to see what their communication was like, gave them simple puzzles and crayons and watched what they did with them, showed them pictures in a book to see if they could recognise and name things, got them rolling and throwig balls and balloons, and brought out a tea-set to see if they were doing role-play. They were weighed and measured, and the HVs asked the parents questions about how they were doing health-wise, whether they could use a knife and fork yet, what their feeding and sleeping was like, if there were any concerns, etc.

my dd had to scribble a picture, pile some bricks on top of each other. Was supposed to look at pictures in a book and say what they were but the little bugger wouldnt say a word. HV asked if I thought she had a problem with speaking but I dont as normally she is a right wee chatterbox!! Also got asked lots of questions about her development and she got weighed and her height measured.

My son is almost 3 and we are still waiting for ours!

I've just been sent a questionnaire in lieu of the 18mth check as my HV has said the toddler check is being phased out here unless the parents or any care givers feel there is a problem.

It has three sections; physical, emotional and social and communication. Under physical it asks for weight and height (I don't know his weight as I haven't had him weighed since he was 1yr) It asks if he's walking/crawling. Also asks if I've noticed any problems with his mobility, his eyesight, his hearing or his eating.

Under emotional it asks if he's happy and if he's affectionate also something about his crying which I can't remember (sorry) Also about sleep patterns.

Under social & communication it asks stuff like do I think he understands me, does he communicate with me using language (it stated that this could be babble not just words) Does he gesture like waving, clapping & pointing.
Does he enjoy playing with his toys, can he recognise pictures of objects he knows in a book.

There was also a bit at the end which asked if there was anything I was worried about.

Sorry if this is long, hope it helps a little. I think it varies from area to area as I know the daughter of a friend of mine was asked to share her drink with the teddy bear and to comb her mummy's hair.

I went along for mine, but my DS got upset about being measured at the very beginning, so the the HV said not to worry - did I have any concerns about him? me 'No'

That was it!

I'm in Sandwell and it was rubbish. Measured him and he was VERY short, did it myself at home and they were miles off. Weighed him. few general questions about sleeping and eating. That was it. Very disappointing. I was worried about his speech and they could tell me nothing really.
