When do toddlers start to jump with both feet off ground?

My DD, coming up for 2, can't jump off the lowest stair onto the ground without holding onto my hands. She was a late walker, 18 months, and cautious. She runs around a lot and scoots and will bounce on bed and bounce to land on her bum happily, but can only jump (slightly) on the bed but not really with both legs up. We think she is hypermobile but am I expecting too much?!

I think by 31 months, just had my ds 31 month assessment and the hv asked if he could jump both feet of the ground. She also asked if he could hop (no chance) and if he walked upstairs.

DS can't quite yet at 28 months. He can jump on a trampoline and a bed but sort of bobs and tiptoes on a hard surface.

My DS is the same as your DD lemony, a late walker and quite cautious.
He will be 3 in may and he still cant jump with both feet off the floor.
I'm not too worried though.

It really varies. My ds3 has been doing it since he was about 15 months (could have been a month or two either side, can't really remember )

Very good at physical stuff though - will jump from about 4 foot high onto a mat (would probably try to do it without a mat too...)

I wouldn't be convinced that being a late walker has anything to do with it. FWIW DD was an early walker (10 months) and can't do it now at 2.

DS was about 18 months (walked at 14 months).

He is totally fearless which, quite frankly, is terrifying.

agree it varies. both mine were early walkers 10m but dc1 had very good balance early on and could jump before 2. dc2 is a bit clumsy and got off the ground at 2.5y

My DS is 4 in july he still cant he does try bless him, im not sure how you teach them, im not particularly worried about it though

I feel worried about it, stupidly. He will crawl up the stairs on his own if that makes sense (is that walking? What does walking mean) or go up holding our hand.

I read an article about muscular distrophy and it scared the shit out of me. I know, stupid, stupid stupid - he's not even out of range for things. Fucking google.

Hi lemonywater. I was also really worried about muscular dystrophy after also googling about my DS not being able to jump. He's 32 months old and has only, in the last few weeks, began to jump with two feet off the ground, and still quite awkwardly. But my DS also likes to walk around on tiptoes so I googled that as well and muscular dystrophy came up (but there are lots of other symptoms like Gower's Gait which I think is the major sign, which he hasn't got, as well as not being able to run or climb). I also wished I had never googled because it completely freaked me out. Mentioned it to my Health Visitor (who I'm sure thought I was a complete fruitcake!) and she assured me that the age at which children can jump varies widely and walking on tiptoes is common (as long as they can walk with their heels on the ground too!) So please don't worry about your DS. He's still quite young to be able to jump properly.

And a mastered skill by 27 to 28 months :)

Given the disparate ages my 4 DC's have managed this, anything between 11 months and 5 years old...

(Though the 5yo WAS late, mostly because he is disabled!)

My DS3 is 25 months, and still can't do this yet.

My dd didn't walk until 20mo but started jumping with both feet at 2.2yo. She still can't/won't jump off things though - far too scary!

Same as Mia - walking at 9.5 months but not jumping at 23 months. At her "baby gym" classes for 18-30 months I'd say it's about 50:50 who is able to.

Mine is two and a half and has only just mastered it, and not every time he tries it still.

My DD has been able to jump flat footed off the ground since about 20 months old. She walked at 12 1/2 months. She can't really jump off things properly she always leads with one foot.

My dd is 26mths and has just learn to do this, and is very impressed with herself about it!

My ds1 didn't jump till he was 3yrs!

Ds2 was much earlier, 18mths? But he crawled at 5mths and walked at 9mths and once he could crawl he could climb, it was a nightmare!

Ds3 was about 2yrs.

Ds4 was 2 as well but later than ds3.

My ds is 3.5 and I've only really noticed he can now do this.

My dd will be 2 next month and she can already do this.

My sister's ds is 2.5 and he cannot do it.

My cousin's dd was doing it christmas 12m ago when she was just gone 2.

Massive variation. Not sure it matters though?

Fwiw both mf mine walked at about 19m.

Don't worry. DS is just 3 and has only just started doing it. Now he won't stop!

My toddler is 16 months old and can already jump from both feet off the ground. Saying that, she can also climb practically anything and everything! All children develop at different stages. I like to teach my toddler by showing.
