Newborn not sleeping tips please!

Hi not sure if I'm posting in the right place but I have a newborn who is 60 hours old, he's my third and am encountering a problem I don't come across with my other two so am after tips. He will not sleep in his Moses basket at all I'm guessing he doesn't like lying flat. In the day he will happily sleep on me or in his bouncy chair but at night I don't want him getting used to either of these. Am I expecting too much too soon maybe?

It's not called the forth trimester for nothing! 3 days ago they were inside you; they're just getting used to breathing and not living in fluid at the moment, I wouldn't worry about 'bad habits' at 60 hours old.

Yes, you are. Get a good sling and let him sleep on you - he'll do far better that way and as he can't form memories yet he also can't form habits. You'll find after a few weeks of going with what he needs that he'll be much happier to settle in his cot. It's not that he doesn't like lying flat, he doesn't want to be on his own - he needs to still feel like a part of you.

The Moses basket may be a little big for him. Try swaddling him or putting rolled up,towels at either side of him to keep him warm. I agree. Don't let him get too used to sleeping on you.

Thanks guys, think I'm expecting too much from us both, must admit I do enjoy a cuddle so i will follow his lead for now as before long he won't want e cuddling him :) x

Hi Hun- had this too with dd. have you tried a tight swaddle? Makes them feel like they're still in the womb- she's 3 months now and still sleeps swaddled....I swear she'd sleep anywhere if swaddled...she loves it, but it's not for every baby xx

Swaddling worked well for us too. But don't forget that he won't be able to tell the difference between day and night yet so there's the whole circadian stuff to consider. Do you make the house noisy during the day/quiet at night? Might be teaching you to suck eggs given you're on your third but it helped us with establishing some night sleeping after a bumpy start.

I found swaddling worked great! My ds was swaddled up until 4 months, only stopped it because we were going on holiday and knew he'd get too hot swaddled in that heat. (Stayed in an un air conditioned house!). Failing that I don't see the harm in letting him sleep in the bouncy chair for a few nights, just as long as it isn't able to bounce because you don't want him getting used to being rocked to sleep! Wow rod for your own back avoidance is hard! x
