Reins?

DS is 16 months and finally walking a bit more reliably. I have taken him out walking a couple of times, and he LOVES it, but is still wobbly and liable to fall.

Is it worth getting reins? Any recommendations? He is not a particularly compliant soul so I am not sure he is going to go for wearing them but I think they would be helpful to me!!

Also, I am paranoid about the first time he actually falls over and hurts himself while we are out (gravel etc) Do people generally carry a few first aid items around with them? (plasters/savlon etc?)

The reins that double as a little back pack are ace. DD loves them and she gets to travel light carrying a nappy and a few wipes on her back. (And little first aid kit if you're worried). It is just like walking a dog! She's two now and doesn't really need them but we still use them a lot.

I didn't have reins for my ds I just held his hand but now dd is 17 months I'm thinking that I'm going to need some for her. She's a lot more independant, the walking in the opposite direction so she comes back thing doesn't work with her she just carries on!

I think if you're tall, they save the back ache from stooping to hold their hand.

I don't carry a first aid kit, you can usually clean up with a wipe or clean tissue. I don't think savlon is necessary, I'd just give grazes a good wash when we get home. You can get first aid wipes I think, so you could carry a few of those around. And maybe have some arnica at home for bumps and bruises.

DD1 is a bolter. Her reins could save her life.

DS is now learning to walk beside me nicely, I don't have to bend over sideways all the time, and I don't have to worry about main roads.

Dd has had reigns since a similar age. Love them we put them on at the start of the day if we go out and they stay on. Don't have to take them off to get in the pushchair or anywhere. So no faffing. I use clippasafe ones as they sell those in both our local pharmacies.

We still hold hands though as when she is slightly older she will need to do so.

Oh in regards to fussing over wearing them dd just got it after a couple of times. She worked out reins = walking. Did have a bit of upset but nothing major.

Like most have said backpack reins are amazing! My dd had it until she outgrew it! Also it stops the backache of the other types of upper body reins. Wrist reins are a pain for little ones because if they fall you end up spinning them in an effort to save them although that could just be me? Lol

Ds has a dinosaur littlelife backpack, he hated reins but asks for his backpack on.
