Nearly 5 year old still wets herself and going on her first play date

And I'm getting a bit stressed by it. She seems ok most of the day at school but more often than not she will wet herself on the way home from school. And it's not just on the way home, if she is playing with friends after school she seems to forget that she needs to go to the toilet until it's too late. I ignore it most of the time, hoping she will grow out of it one day. But this whole going to tea at her friends house, with the friends mum picking her up from school is worrying me. I have spoken to her friends mum, which was a but embrassing, and will ask her teacher to make her go just before it's time to go home. I was wondering of anyone out there has had similar problems.

Most kids her age need a wee before walking or driving home...do you not check she has been before you set off for home? If I were the playdate Mum and a child this age had an accident, I would be very understanding..it's so young still. Don't fret....but definitely make sure DD has a wee before leaving school.

I don't think it is unusual at that age to have a few accidents. my dd is 5 and fairly often has damp pants, due to leaving it too late. I wouldn't find it embarrassing mentioning to another mother. I always send dd with a pair of dry pants in her bag. she changes herself if needed.
