SUdden stammer in 2.1 year old

I'm mainly checking that I'm right to not be worried.

He is very verbal - speech came on at a tremendous rate at about 21 months, and now at 25 months he has a wide vocabulary and is talking in complete and quite complex sentences. So far so good!

However in the last week he has started to stammer quite badly - he will get stuck on a word (which he knows) and make an 'ah ah ah' noise until someone suggests a word, or he gives up, looks sad and says 'me not talking now'.

Is this normal? I presume I should just keep an eye on it, but looking for some opinions

Totally normal! My DS did it around 2.7 (but was latish to start speaking). Phase lasted 2 or 3 weeks and that was it. He's now 3.4 and chatters away no problem. Lots of his little friends went through similar phases too.

Really normal, their brains work a bit faster than their mouths.

Ahh, thanks for the quick replies! Figured that was the case, but nice to have some reassurance. Its his sad little face that gets me! Will just keep telling him he is a clever boy Grin

Best thing to do is just let them talk and not prompt them apparently. My DD still does it a bit when she's tired (she's 2.8) but not nearly so much as she did.
