Baby born with teeth

My DS is 9 days old and has 4 teeth coming through. He was born with 2 and another two have appeared somehow.

My midwife said shes never heard of it but that i shouldnt be concerned, hes a contented baby and it doesnt seem to bother him but im just a bit worried for some reason. DD got her first tooth at 16 weeks and had a smile like a toddlers by 7 months old.

Anyone else know of this, please reassure me Grin

Yep, it is common. My children were both late (as in nearly 18 months for first tooth in one case) but my dentist mentioned both ends of the spectrum as totally normal.

My midwife specifically mentioned some babies being born with teeth too, so it's odd your midwife has 'never heard of it' as opposed to 'not seen it herself' I think.

My youngest was born with two teeth (bottom teeth, at the front).

The midwife was not bothered at all, nor was the GP at the 6 week check. My husband was born with a tooth too.

I had no problems with breasfeeding etc. and now at 2 years old, the teeth blend in perfectly with the rest of the far more troublesome mouthful!

Fear not, just look at it as being fewer teeth to keep you awake further down the line Grin.

My uncle was born with 4 teeth and the rest came through shortly after ! My dd was nearly 10 months before she got any!

I know a lady whose son was born with a tooth, at least there's less teething grumps if they've sprouted teeth inside the womb ;-)

My grand mother had some when she was born, and all the MW were Hmm when her mum told them she was bitting. So yes there can be some problems with BF (it is hard enough without any bitting to start with!), but still within normal.

I think it should save your ds some bother....teething is rotten!

My ds is 12 wo and is teething, bless him, but ds1 was a late teether, didn't have a single tooth on his first birthday!

Sounds fine. Hope they cut through with no bother!

I was born with teeth! though for years thought my mum was exaggerating - eventually got the full story off her when I had my children and realised it was true. My adult teeth came through really early too.

DD1 had teeth by about 8 weeks. I couldn't understand why she was always so grouchy. It was a bit of a relief to feel those teeth coming through, to explain the grouchiness!
