what do you do with a 6 week old baby?

My ds is 6 weeks old, he's lovely and very calm. He sleeps moat of the time but he has very alert times when he just wakes up.

I chat to him sometimes and we sing songs, I have started putting him on his back and showing him toys. I havr just started doing "tummy time" with Jim but he hates it and rolls onto his back.

We have baths everyday because he loves them, sometimes we have a shower too. I massage him with baby oil and give him nappy off time.

What else can we do? He is recovering from RS virus at the moment so we can't leave the house as he is still contagious.

I don't feel like I'm stimulating him enough, I never know what to say to him. I read books to him but he just stares into space.

Sit and watch day time telly. Catch up on sleep. Eat cake. Put the books away for now, you'll be bored sick if them this time next year.

You sound like you are doing just fine Smile

that's all perfect :)

Sounds great. If you're stuck for topics of conversation just chat to him about what you're doing as you do it iykwim? Making lunch or changing nappies etc etc

Once he's better get out and about as much as you can - that's good for both of you!

"I never know what to say to him"

Just give him a running commentary sometimes of what you're doing, where you're going, what you can see / hear. He doesn't really need a lot of special stimulation. Just being with you and sharing your daily activities is enough stimulation at his age.

Our day is just so boring, before he got ill we went out lots (I think that is why he got ill :( ) it was easy to talk to him when we were actually doing something.

I will try to tell him things about our home.

I used to give ds a running commentary, stick him in his bouncy chair in front of the washing machine while I cooked, put black and white books in his carry cot, watch me do the ironing/vacuuming Blush He used to do a lot of watching! But babies do get over stimulated very quickly and he was always happy just taking in the world

But mostly we went out, made new friends and spent an awful lot of time in coffee shops eating a LOT of cake. Ah happy days Smile

it sounds lovely.

I don't think your day sounds boring.
you're still in recovery.

at 6 weeks you're just getting the hang of it - you just have to feed change and cuddle the baby.
enjoy this time and revel in the quiet boringness. it won't last long and soon you'll want it back!
