My 2 year old takes nappy off in bed.

We put him down, he giggles away in there and by the morning the nappy is off, hes naked and proudly showing me where he stuffed his nappy because it was 'dirty'.

I am going to start potty training because hes showing all the signs, but what to do about the night time stripping where he has dirtied his nappy in the night and decides to take it off?!

I have changed the sheets everyday for a week. We are trying pull ups tonight but after checking on him, I see he is already naked but for the pull up nappy. That will be off by morning!

Any advice greatly appreciated!

All-in-one PJs on backwards?

Valpollicella · 29/01/2013 23:00

have you tried putting the nappy on backwards? so tge tabs are inaccessible (kind of)?

JellyMould · 29/01/2013 23:02

Yep, try it backwards, or put a reusable nappy wrap such as motherease over it.

You guys are brilliant! I never thought of this, its GENIUS!!!

Cloth nappies with popper fastenings?

fridayfreedom · 29/01/2013 23:02

Duct tape???

steppemum · 29/01/2013 23:03

my friend's dd did this and she taped it on. Got thick sellotape and put it round on top of where the tabs are! worked a treat.

PootlePosyPerkin · 29/01/2013 23:04

DS2 started doing this but whilst we were potty training. He was just turned 2 & using a potty in the day which we kept in the bathroom. He would wake up in the night, take nappy off and try to get to the potty! In his case it was simple, just leave a potty in his bedroom and hope he didn't tip it up!

It sounds like the sooner you introduce a potty the better Grin.

Oh, and my 17 month old DD has started taking her nappy off too unless she's wearing trousers. She can't get trousers off but can manage her tights!

tuckingfits · 29/01/2013 23:04

Does he wear a vest with poppers at the bottom? That's the only way I can stop my two year old (today!) taking his nappy off.

imonlydancing · 29/01/2013 23:04

Duct tape was DP's suggestion. Getting him dry at night was my mums suggestion. Both seemed extreme.

Backwards sleepsuits... That is just inspired! Grin

Sorry, have read that back & apologise for the overuse of the word potty.

Shaky · 29/01/2013 23:05

Also vests with poppers if they still fit him, at least he will have more of a battle to get to the nappy and will probably give up trying.

imonlydancing · 29/01/2013 23:09

I'm going to put all effort into getting him dry in the day, meanwhile using the backwards onesie in the night, with a view to going dry at night as soon as we can (in case he gets distressed at not being able to get clean and starts waking).

Just 3 mins ago I was thinking my sons bed would forever spell of wee wee and now I have a concrete plan!

Vests with poppers we tried, he pulls the nappy through the leg holes Confused

if you want to be double sure you could also put a sleeping bag on backwards, if he's using them.

Shaky · 29/01/2013 23:21

Clever boy Grin

wrigglerstea · 29/01/2013 23:25

We did use duct tape. Little band of it from just behind one tab to just past the other one. It made her laugh like hell as we put it on as we attached one end then spun her round and we only had to do it for a couple of weeks before she forgot about taking her nappy off!

duchesse · 29/01/2013 23:35

DD3 could wriggle out of everything including sleeping bags and backwards babygrows- she worked out you just have to pull at the poppers from over the shoulder quite quickly.

The one thing that stopped her was disposable nappy on with back to front nappy wrap over the top.

MrsWeasley · 29/01/2013 23:44

My friends DS did this, she tried everything from duct tape on nappy to backwards all in one. She even, one night, tried 2 all in ones (1 on correctly 1 on backwards). Her DS just saw this as a challenge and managed to be naked before she has even got down the stairs. Grin
