How do I stop DS throwing food on the floor?

He's only 1.5 but it's driving me mental.
He throws it on the floor then makes out that he's had enough, then when I lift him out of his chair he eats the bits off the floor
Will he stop by himself? When I use my stern voice he just laughs and keeps doing it.

clean up before he gets out, then let him down.

He won't starve, but if each time he does it his meal ends, he will give up.

Ignore the throwing. Praise his eating. Clear up when he's finished. He'll soon learn that it's more satisfying to eat than to throw.

I think it's the laughing at me that's the worst bit. There's nothing more infuriating than someone laughing in your face when you're trying to tell them off!

that is so true, my ds1 still laughs when I tell him off although his is a nervous laugh. still winds me up - and he knows it! with mine I gave them a smaller amount and as soon as they messed around I took food away calmly and waited until they were sat nicely. lots of praise for good behaviour.

DS (22 months) has only just stopped doing this. Very frustrating, but I was also advised to ignore it and think that may have done the trick. He is now very enthusiastic about tidying up his high chair when he has finished eating!

Yes, positive praise for good behaviour, studious ignoring of bad behaviour (even when it is soooo annoying to see the dinner you have cooked chucked on the floor!) works best, I think.

When DD (1.2) starts throwing food on the floor we interpret it that she's full and take the rest of the food away. She is beginning to learn not to.

The laughing bit makes you want to weep, doesn't it? DS is 23 months and still sometimes does this.

Solution is always removing the food without making a big deal of it. DS knows the word 'no', so that suffices. Lots of praise for neat, efficient eating!

All food is cleared away before he gets down. I won't send DS to bed hungry, but am careful to give him boring things if he's hungry again in half an hour/an hour - for a brief period he wouldn't eat his supper and then would demand bread and jam after half an hour!

I will lend you my labrador and my lab cross - who will catch any bits of food before they even hit the ground. Then, as Prozacbear says, boring food if he is still hungry.
