Is it normal for babies to sleep a lot when they have a cold?

DS is 8 weeks and has sniffles and a cough caught off DH. I too now have a cold with a sore throat.

He slept extremely well last night and has slept a lot today too - is this because he is ill and his body is fighting off the cold? Is this normal behaviour or something more to worry about? He also has red cheeks and nose.

I'm also having issues with feeding but I think this might be a separate issue so will possibly start another thread about that but in case anyone has any experience, he is crying a lot at the breast and his feeding time has become much shorter over the past week or so.

Thanks for your help

Hello, my DS2 did this when he got his first cold at three weeks. As you are having feeding issues maybe call NHS Direct. Please don't worry.

Yes, it is normal babies to slip longer when they are not feeling well, while my DD is not BF so much even if she wants to when she has stuffed nose.
