A friend of mine has a dd (4) who since the age of about 2 pulls out her hair and now she has a huge bald patch at the back of her hair, her mum doesn't seem that worried about this, i am more concerned than she is, which is why i thought i would ask about it here to see if anyone else has experienced this. Whenever i see her she is a very happy little girl, will pass on advice to my friend. thanks

Its called trichotilomania, its common in older girls, normally starting at aged 11. I have it. My DD2 also pulled her hair out for 2 years when she was 1-3. It stopped overnight. Children who pull do normally grow out of it, but teenagers and adults find it harder to stop. Its classed as an Impulse Disorder (simliar to OCD)
