4 year old erections

My 4 year old son (5 in march) has started complaining that his penis is hurting and it seems to coincide with having an erection. He has had them before but they have been a normal frequency and has never complained of pain before. It happens several time a day now. There are no signs of anything else being sore in that area. He has also been complaining of tummy ache most mornings but thought this was just post Christmas blues and not wanting to go back to school - could they be linked or am I reading too much into it?

erections are of course normal, and it should never be painful.
if he has pain that could be an infection or the skin loosening around the tip of the penis (where the wee comes out) unless of course circumcised
or some other things

if stomach pains and not ill otherwise I'd suspect something might be going on at school, especially if he's unusually reluctant to go. (it could actually be the pain in his willy...)

I'd ask his teacher on Monday if she's noticed anything and if she could keep an eye on him socially, he might be upset about something

my DS3 once developed a sudden dislike to school, for the life of me I couldn't figure out what was going on.
then after about a week and out of the blue he told me he wants to wear boxer shorts because the boys were teasing him about his underpants (knickers style) FFS
next day he had boxers on, happy as Larry.....he was 5 at the time

if pain in his penis continues I'd take him to gp - they should be able to take a swab to see if there's an infection or refer him to the urology dep.

Agree with all of the above, but just wanted to add that my DS complained of penis pain when he first started having erections. After a bit of discussion, it became clear that it didn't hurt as such, but that it felt strange & he couldn't place the sensation, so defaulted to 'hurt', IYSWIM.

although mine would just giggle and say, look mummy my willy is growing big

(well, it will be easier when it's my turn to explain periods to DD!)

I too think it is more a strange sensation rather than pain after discussing with him.
My real concen is how frequently they are occurring. Can they happen if he needs to go to the toilet, as he does wait until the very last minute to wee!
