Haven't got any experience of loosing speech sorry. Have you thought of using some signs, like makaton with him? Have you spoken to your HV too?

When my ds was 17 months he seemed to stop talking for a couple of weeks. He wouldnt copy anything i said, make the animal noises hed been doing for ages or tell me stuff as i pointed it out. it Petrified me. Googled it and convinced myself he'd got delayed autism and allsorts of ridiculous nonsense.
He's now just turned 18 months and has had a total language explosion!!! He says at least 50 words or more and will attempt to copy anything you ask him.
During that time his walking has vastly improved as in I can take him out on reigns without him falling all the time and he can walk quite a distance now. I think he was just concentrating on that and quite simply didn't want to talk at that time.
He's obviously now realised talking is good and gets him stuff and Is fun and is doing it all the time.
Don't worry. Give him a few more weeks and review it Smile

I would give him a few weeks then speak to either your health visitor or GP.
Losing speech(regression) can be a sign of autism.

My 4 year old son has autism and I was told when he was being assessed ,that is one of signs they look for(my son said mama and dada and then stopped around 14 months)

It might just be a phase he is going through so give it a few weeks but if nothing changes,i would take to him to HV or GP

Xxx
