baby length/height worry

My DS is 8.5 months. At birth he was 91st centile for length (which we queried as DH is only 5'7" at best) but we were told it was correct. At his 8 wk check he was down to 50th centile and at 7 months he was down to the 2nd. He was measured today and hasn't grown any more length wise and is now in danger of dropping off the charts. My HV is a bit concerned but said that she wouldn't worry until he's 18 months or so. He's between the 25th & 50th for weight but weight gain has pretty much stopped the last month.

Can anyone reassure me? I know I'm probably just being silly worrying but all the same, I'm worrying!

Sus, x

My DD hasn't had her length/height measure since she was born - they don't bother with it around here. Surely the measurements will vary a lot according to who is doing the measuring? I really wouldn't worry about it, as long as your DS is gaining weight and seems healthy and happy in himself.

i worried about this also as my ds has food probs, he was on 91st centile at birth and now on 50th (im 5'6" and the ex is over 6'). his weight started on 50th centile and is now just about on the 9th.

i think id prob worry also with yours being that low, praps he'll have a growth spurt?i actually started measuring my ds myself cause i was getting so paranoid that he was shrinking!

I was told that babies length measurements can be very inaccurate. You can't really get accurate measurements until they able to stand and you can measure their height.

My DD is 7 and is the same size as her 4 year old brother. She didn't put on weight as a baby and has always been small. At birth she was 7lb 1oz and was 48cm, no idea why she is so small but she is healthy otherwise.
