Sleeping problems

My baby is 11 weeks, has always slept pretty well from 7 to 7 ( with feeds of course) since birth and has had a bedtime routine since he was 3 weeks. But for the last week he has started waking up at 8 or 9 pm every night. He isn't hungry but he is unsettled and hard to get back to sleep.....I can sometimes pat him to sleep in the day/night but at this of night time i cant and he screams. He will pass out on me eventually as he is so tired but then wake when i put him down as he is in such a light sleep! He settles down at 7pm easily by the way.

Any thoughts on why this is happening? Too much or too title daytime sleep? He has 3 hours in the day...45 mins, 2 hours, 15 mins....loosely Gina ford.

Also any thoughts on preventing the wakes?
Thanks

Could he just be hungry? What happens if you offer milk? There is some info here on helping sleep. You might also like isis and have you read Sound Sleep by Sarah Woodhouse or Babycalming by Caroline Deacon? Both authors are mothers and both books are evidence books (unlike Gf).

Do you think it may be colic?

Sorry both books are evidence based. Bloody typos.

He might just need a cuddle though, this is normal and nothing to worry about Smile

Thanks I will look at those books. He may just want a cuddle you're right but just seemed not like him to be waking for one when he previously hadn't....

Around 12 weeks, but not always exactly 12 weeks they have a massive growth spurt. There are also other thing that can affect sleep like developmental leaps. At 12 weeks your Ds is about to have mental leap 3. Are you signed up for the wonder weeks emails or do you have the book?

Once the growth spurt has passed and the mental leap achieved, you might find that things settle down by themselves until the 4 month sleep regression anyway Grin

Ah hah! And he has eaten like a machine today! This could be the answer, a bit unsettled due to a spurt! Thanks!

That's ok. I think it always helps if you have a bit of a clue of what they're upto Smile
