3 year old pinching cheeks in anger/frustration

Recently my 3.4 year old has started pinching himself when angry/frustrated.
He will pull/ pinch his cheeks quite hard whilst clenching his teeth.
Does anyone have any experience with this? I have been telling him calmly not to do that but should I perhaps ignore it completely? Am hoping it's just a stage that will pass quickly Confused

Hi, Im not going to be much help, but my DD started to scratch her cheeks in anger/ frustration. She is similar age to your DS. We tried not to make a big thing of it, but just explained to her that she was hurting herself only and mummy and daddy would not be giving into what she wanted. She hasn't done it recently, but then again, we haven't had any spectacular tantrums recently. Hopefully, it is something they will grow out of.

not entirely the same but my dd2 used to bang her head on the floor. my health visitor just told me to ignore her unless she bangs it really hard obviously. i did it as hard as it was and when she realised she wasnt getting anywhere doing it she stopped think she was about 2yo when she was doing it. its very hard to ignore them when you think there going to hurt themselfs. but it worked for me.
