9 Week Old Sleep Habits

Hello everyone,

Hoping someone might have some advice for me regarding my 9 week old sons sleeping habits.

We got off to a really good start at night and from 6 weeks he has only had one feed at night and slept really well before and after this feed.

The last few nights he wakes every 40 minutes or so just seeming unsettled, he does have a dummy which soothes him off to sleep but in the past once he was in a deep sleep and it fell out it didn't bother him but now it seems to, I was putting him down awake and just checking on him a couple of times until he drifted off to sleep.

I have tried swaddling him but that doesn't seem to be working. He does move a lot at night and his arms and legs are quite often jerking around.

Through the day it is difficult to get him to nap as well unless I take him out in the car / pram he will nap for maybe 20 minutes at a time.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, some people have said to let him cry but I'm not sure about that approach as he is so young.

x

have you tried gripe water. sounds like it could be belly ache if not check how hot or cold your house is, it may be ok for you but too hot or cold for baby.

I do have some so will try that tonight with his bedtime feed, not sure if it is that though.
I do worry about the temperature of the house, it is usually at between 16 and 18 degrees though.
All his naps today have been no longer than 20 minutes, he is quite obviously tired though

try the gripe water. my 7week old had really bad gripe pains from birth and i ended up using colif which worked really well but its £11 per 7ml bottle and you have to wean them off of it but it did hep him loads. maybe try that if all else fails. 18 degrees is about right so should be fine. good luck with the gripe water hope it works x

Sounds just like normal baby behaviours to me, could he just be hungry? You can try the gripe water if you want but it just sounds like he wants a cuddle and maybe a feed.

Have a read of 31 ways to get your baby to sleep for some practical tips and have you read Babycalming by Caroline Deacon?

Sounds totally normal - he's probably hungry. I'd just feed him at night. Their sleep patterns usually change every few weeks for several months, so don't feel like it's something you've done or haven't done. If you feed him to sleep during the day then wait till he's solidly asleep before you put him down, or just wear him in a sling - they can nap for hours like that.
