one year old sleeping over four hours a day and all night...

Okay, I am not knocking this, because selfishly, it is great for me.

But ds3 sleeps from 9.30 - 12.30 every morning, then from 3.30-5pm every afternoon and still sleeps straight through the night from 7.30 - 7.30
I wouldn't have let my two older children sleep this long, but since I have been so busy at home this year, I have just let him sleep as long as he likes... since he is still sleeping at night, there has been no reason to change the routine.
But I am suddenly a bit worried. His older sister didn't nap at all by 1, and dd2 only slept for an hour and a half a day -- he is sleeping 4.5!
Has anyone else had a baby who sleeps as much?
thanks!

Mine was still sleeping this much at one. She was still having a two hour nap every afternoon until she was 2.6, right up until we (stupidly) put her in a bed instead of her cot. Then she stopped, just like that. Embrace your sleeper and count yourself lucky.

MisForMumNotMaid · 07/01/2013 16:35

Dd1 was sleeping a similar amount until about 15 months. Now at 23 months shes sleeping/ in her cot 13 hrs happily at night and 1-2 hrs typically in the day but this is a 3 ish hour sleep twice a week.

ZuleikaD · 07/01/2013 17:50

DD had two two-hour naps and 11 hours at night until she was nearly 2.

birdofthenorth · 07/01/2013 18:04

Tbh that sounds like a heck of a lot of sleep to me. I reckon 3 hours napping over 1 is heaps. But if it works for both of you I don't suppose it does any harm! jealous

OneSliceOfSwissCheese · 07/01/2013 19:37

My DD is 13 months and still sleeps loads. 2 good naps in am and pm (1 hour - 2 1/2 hours long) and 12-13 hours at night. I know it's a ridiculous amount of sleep, but she just seems to need it.

Thirstysomething · 07/01/2013 20:35

thanks for that! will relax a bit now and just enjoy it...

My DS sleeps 14-15 hours a day still (at 2) and has done since he was 11 months ish

I'd enjoy it!

JuliesSistersCousinsAuntsCat · 07/01/2013 20:41

Sounds like my DS at one. His naps were 9-11am and then 2-3.30pm. Bed 7pm through to 7am. Even now at 22 months he has a 1-3pm nap and sleeps 7-8am (yes, 8am. I have a fond sleeper).

Not met many toddlers like that though!

ceeveebee · 07/01/2013 20:46

My 14 mo twins sleep 2 hours in the morning, 1 1/2 in the afternoon and 12 hours at night too!

IcouldstillbeJoseph · 07/01/2013 20:49

Yep, my DS was exact same. I fondly remember at about 9 months he was only up for 2 hours and then would go back to sleep for 2 hours, 3 times a day and still do 12 hours at night. Ahh, those were the days!

nickelbabylyinginamanger · 07/01/2013 20:55

the bounty book says a one year old is probably sleeping 2 1-2hour naps and 10 hours overnight.

yours is sleeping more than that. but if he's well during the day and growing well it's fine

forevergreek · 07/01/2013 21:17

At 1year awe had an hour in am, and 2 hrs after lunch. Eldest is 3 and still sleeps 2 hrs every afternoon

OneSliceOfSwissCheese · 07/01/2013 21:18

I asked the HV about the huge amounts of sleep DD needs at her 9 month review. She said as long as she was alert and active in the periods she's awake , there was no need to worry.

3smellysocks · 08/01/2013 00:05

My 1 year olds tended to do 6pm till 7am, 11 till 2, then half an hour about 4

DS needed a lot of sleep when he was little. He could do a four hour nap and then sleep all night. He needed an afternoon nap until he was well over 3.

DD on the other hand started cutting back on her naps from age 1. Think DS did all her sleeping for her!

My dd was like this. Was bliss.

Fuzzymum1 · 08/01/2013 20:12

At a year old DS3 seemed to do nothing but sleep - he would nap from 9-11 then again from 1-3 then bed at 5.30 and up at 7.30! Apparently I was the same at that age.

ChristmasJubilee · 08/01/2013 20:41

I only ever put mine down for one nap a day, straight after lunch. They often slept from 12.30 - 4.30 and then 7.30 - 7.30 overnight. They had to. I worked nightshift and their nap was the only sleep I got.

PerchanceToDream · 08/01/2013 20:44

What!? I hate you all! Wink

SunshineOutdoors · 08/01/2013 20:45

Why did I read this? I'm so jealous! Enjoy! Smile
