potty training: afraid of the potty!

Hoping for some words of wisdom about our 2 year old dd. We have just started potty training in the last few days and things are not going well so far. She fully understands the process but seems afraid to sit on the potty. Have tried bribing, playing, reading stories, eating snacks etc on the potty. She has only done 1 wee on it & it seemed to startle her! She knows what its for & had no problem sitting on it when we reintroduced it for preparation a while ago. Just wondering has anyone out there any ideas how to get her to sit on it as I don't want to force her!

I' d back off and let her do it in her own time. Mine was like this and it took a few months until her friends at nursery were using the potty and she started doing so too. They get used to nappies and its a big change. Just turned 2 is very young so no need to worry my daughter just suddenly got over the fear at 2.4 and trained easily.

I was going to suggest seeing other people using it. Although given her age perhaps she's just not quiet ready, maybe try again in another few weeks.
