Swimming

I am planning on taking DD swimming again tommorow but I've just realised her costume is rather large and last time I just took her in a swim nappy which I've just half been told is wrong and half told is fine. Now I'm so confused? What is ideal?
We have supermarkets near by with clothing ranges but I don't think their swimming things will be in.

How large is it? I would just stick it on over the top of the swim nappy anyway

6-9 rather than 3-6 the hanger and label were different Hmm

How old is she? I take my DD who's 3 month just in a swim nappy and cover, it's fine, although it is quite a warm pool.

our swimming pool can be really cold that is why I always make sure DS is wearing quite thick swim wear. Last time we went we only stayed 15 mins because it was so cold. It is probably ok to just wear the nappy if it is lovely and warm. If it were me, I would put the big costume on over the nappy. Some sports centers sell swim wear, I have bought a few things for ds on the way into the pool before.

Thank you for all the advice! Will check temp of pool etc just didn't want people to be judgey.

If half the people you know have told you to stick her in just a swim nappy and half the people you know have said she must have a costume on then you have just discovered one of the most profound truths of parenting - there is no ideal.

If you both feel comfortable whatever you do is fine. Things that make a difference include the temp of the pool, the temp of the air, how lovely and chubby your DD is (my 0.04th centile DD got chilly v quickly), how used to swimming she is and just generally what kind of mood she is in that day!

Having a bottle or boob handy can help too, they warm up fast when they have a little something and sometimes feel up to a bit more pool time after a snack.

Just a swim nappy is fine, my 18mth old goes weekly and her and all her peers go in swim nappy no costume. Noone will be judgey!

Just wanted to update and say it was a great success. We got a costume at the pool, pool lovely and warm. Great fun!
