12mo started 1nap wwyd

Basically I have started 12mo dd on 1nap at noon. She was doing 2 before but was not getting tired for pm nap until it got v late. Our routine was going a bit like this:

6.30/7am -wake
10-11am nap (I would wake)
3/3.30-4.00/4.15 (latest)- nap
7pm - bed although was taking 40mins to settle

Past few days I have tried one nap. 1st day she napped only 1hr 15 then slept 11.5hrs, then she napped 1hr15mins and slept 13HOURS last night (this has never happened before. Again today we only got 1hr 10mins nap!

Do you think we should continue for a week or so to see how this goes or is short nap a sign of OT that will send this all crashing down? Am thinking her body clock might start evening our her day/night sleep e.g. wake 7, nap 12-2, bed 7pm.

What do you think>

The short nap does sound OT but if she's sleeping 13hrs then she seems ok with it! The 2-1 transition can be hard, my DS dropped to one but then switched back to two when he started walking!

I would try it for a while and see how it goes.It sounds like she is getting ready to do it since she's not tired for pm nap and taking a while to settle for bed.

If she doesn't cope with one, you could try a v short am catnap and then a longer pm nap.

My dd was only having one nap just before lunch when she was one and has always slept well at night.

Thanks for advice!

Still confused and not sure tbh! Yesterday was:

7.45am - wake
12-1.10-nap
6.45- asleep for the night

BUT she was restless and woke twice which she very rarely does and was crying. Waking were before midnight, then she slept really well until 7.30am. I know the NW scream of OT but I'm wondering if it'll just take her a while to get used to the new routine. If she had woke in the night again or been restless still or woke early in the morning then I would have def tried 2 naps but I thought it best to let her sleep.

I just don't see how 2 naps will continue to work if she's not sleeping in pm until 3/3.30 or 4pm.

Not sure what to do now!

I would carry on for a while also give her a chance to go back to sleep at 1.10. Are you giving her lunch before her nap?

I would continue the one nap, tbh. I think that the transition between different naptimes (ie 3-2 naps, 2-1 etc) is always a difficult time but I feel that sticking to your guns and just going for it helps them to settle into the new routine s but easier. Not that we're a 'routine' sort of family, but by the time you're down to 2/1 nap/s, you've got some sort of routine!

Thanks. Yeah lunch is before nap as i thought she wouldn't sleep long if she was hungry.

Also, I have left her i her cot when waking after 1hr 10/15mins for another half an hour but she doesn't go back to sleep. Maybe it'll just take some time for her body to adjust.

I know she woke in the night but I thought she would wake earlier in the morning if she really was OT. 7.30am is a late wake up for her even when she was doing 2 naps and not going to sleep until 7.30/40pm.

I guess I,ll just continue for a while and see.
