did your baby roll?

I'm just curious really. ds rolled. he did it early and worked out he could get around so did it lots. dd is 24 weeks and has rolled front to back about 6 times about a month ago but now doesn't. I 'm not particularly worried as she is getting quite good at sitting and is hitting her milestones but just curious to see if anyone else's baby didn't bother. she shows absolutely no signs of wanting to roll back to front either. she found her toes at about 4 and a bit months and they are apparently the best thing in the world Grin

DS finally rolled at 10months, but then very swiftly learned to crawl, and was walking by 14 months.

At 20 months he's now running and climbing, and has a remarkably impressive vocabulary.

I think he just didn't need to roll, he'd just yell for someone to move him/sit him up, etc.

Hope this reassures you.

CMOTDibbler · 21/12/2012 13:23

DS couldn't be bothered to do it either. Hasn't made any difference to him

RichManPoorManBeggarmanThief · 21/12/2012 13:25

Ds only did it under duress, sat up at 6mo,, never crawled and walked at 15mo. Had a few funnies- like it took him till he was one to learn to lie down from sitting up. If he sat up in his cot he'd cry and wait for us to come and lie him down. Similarly it took him till 13 no to start pulling himself to standing. He is 2 now and absolutely fine in terms of gross motor skills.

Dd rolled at 10 wks and flips herself over both ways so it'll be interesting to see what she does. She's nearly 5mo.

Dd1 rolled early. Dd2 didn't roll and at ten months was referred for physio but she also hated being on her back so rolling was a real struggle for her. At 3.4 she still sometimes gets stuck on her back and forgets how to roll over!

YoSaffBridge · 21/12/2012 13:31

DD rolled early, but then she had always loved being on her back and spent a lot of time chewing her feet, so it was a natural progression really. But for months she was so happy getting around by rolling that she was late to sit and late to crawl.

ShowOfHands · 21/12/2012 13:32

DS rolled at 12 weeks, both ways. But then moved on vv quickly and stopped bothering. Was sitting well at 5 months, pulling up at 6.5 months, cruising at 8 months, walking at 9, running at 10 months. It was all down to sheer determination. He just wanted to move and then move more. DD was far more laidback and didn't roll until 16 weeks, stood and cruised at 7 months without crawling first, crawled properly at 10 months but then got up at 11 months and walked. Mine haven't read the books obviously.

MrsChristmasBungle · 21/12/2012 13:47

I never saw dd roll even once! She kind of moved from one side to.the other. Never rolled properly though.

Dd never crawled either! She bum shuffled til she could be bothered to walk at 17 months.

She is now a running, hopping, skipping mad 3.5 year old. Totally fine physically.

7 month old ds rolls bloody everywhere. I now appreciate non moving baby dd!

Morph2 · 21/12/2012 15:46

DS now 2.7 never rolled, well tell i lie he did a couple of times but it was more when he sort of accidently fell off a cushion!!

Obviously he can roll now but he didn't really do this till after he could crawl well (started crawling at 7 months and walked at 14 month)

Lozmatoz · 21/12/2012 19:02

My ds rolled at 3 months exactly. Did about 3 times over a couple of days. Obviously got bored as he didn't do it agin until 6 months. By that time he'd been sitting on his own for a month and a half. They just do things when they're ready.

MirandaWest · 21/12/2012 19:03

DS rolled from 4.5 months.
DD rolled at about 11 months I think and didn't do it much then.

They're 9 and 7 now and neither does much rolling now but both get round well enough :)

sasamaxx · 21/12/2012 19:10

I don't think any of mine rolled...

F0xyLady · 21/12/2012 19:12

No

DD didn't do tummy time, rolling or crawling.

But she could sit on her own at 5 months, bum shuffle at 7 and walk at 12 months.

She just wasn't a very horizontal sort of baby, always prefered being upright.

IWillOnlyEatBeans · 21/12/2012 21:15

DS didn't roll until he was about 14 months, when he also learnt to go from lying down to sitting up.

He rolls all over the floor now while he's playing (2.10)

HSMM · 21/12/2012 21:22

DD rolled the day she was born (much to the midwife's horror), didn't sit for ages or crawl very efficiently (she was too good at rolling) and walked early.

GailTheGoldfish · 22/12/2012 10:13

My DD is the same, can roll but not particularly bothered, does it then doesn't do it for ages. She is 22 weeks.

NinjaChipmunksGotBigBaubles · 22/12/2012 10:25

really interesting to read the variation in ages and botheredness. clearly dd is not the only baby who doesn't care about rolling or not!

DD never rolled. Ever.

inadreamworld · 26/12/2012 19:31

DD didn't roll until about 10 months. However she is late with physical milestones, sat without support at 9 months, crawled at 12 months and still not walking at 20 months!!
