my 14 mth ds keeps smacking me in the face and headbutting, im at the end of my tether as i dont know what to do. im really concerned that he is going to really hurt himself or another child. the thing is he laughs when he does it so i dont know whether he thinks its a funny game . advice please before i pull all my hair out.

Oh, dear! It does sound as if he thinks it is a game.

Have you tried just ignoring it, distracting him, don't react at all.

My ds (almost 14 months) is going through a biting phase at the moment - I have bite marks on my legs, shoulder and even my phase. At first I told him not to do it but he just laughed the last few days I have been ignoring it through gritted teeth and the he seems to have improved.

This sounds familiar - my 12 month old slaps me quite a lot, and will often pull at my face to get to my glasses and leaves scratch marks (I should really cut her nails more often!! Blush) She only does it when she's a bit tired and grumpy, I think she sees it as a way of getting my attention. I am choosing to ignore it for the time being, hopefully it is just a phase. She only does it to me and her dad at the moment, but if she started on another child I would say No and move her away. Sorry not really advice - just thought you'd like to know it's not just you!!

My son did the same and when i went to the doctor they said that they only do it enough so that it doesn't realy hurt. When they hurt them selves they stop doing!!!!!!!!

my ds has been headbanging for about 4months since 14months old. he headbutts my elder son who finds it hilariousAngry, he nuts doors, glass windows, the floor, me!i used to panic and think OMG he'l fracture his skull but when he does it now he stops once it hurts and cries his eyes out for a cuddle. he used to slap and scratch my elder son who again found it hilarious but that stopped last month thank goodness
